Marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the year of digitalization of Bangladesh, country's Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has decided to open its first official visa application centre (VAC) in Kolkata. It will benefit travellers from India to Bangladesh and boost tourism and business in both the countries, reads a press release.
Currently, applicants need to submit their applications and documents directly at three counters of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission within three hours. Visa applicants sometimes wait whole night in long queues on the street outside the high commission which pose a serious security threat to the diplomatic mission, adds the release.
Sometimes visa applicants suffer from sunshine and rain amid lack of sheds, toilets and other facilities. With 10 counters and completely air conditioned building the new centre will reduce the woes of people, said the press release. In the new VAC, fees of processing will be less for visa applicants and they will have a seamless experience.
